My AI-Powered macOS Development Journey

🌟 CopyCat App is a smart clipboard manager for Mac that makes everything you copy instantly searchable, organized, and ready to paste — all from your menu bar. It captures text, images, files, links, code snippets, and more, storing up to thousands of copied items locally so you never lose anything again. With powerful search, filters, previews, and boards to organize your clips, CopyCat turns your clipboard history into a productivity powerhouse — fast, efficient, and completely offline.

A few weeks ago, I built and shipped my macOS app CopyCat — and the entire thing took about 15 hours of real work.


Not 15 days... Not 15 weeks... Just Fifteen focused hours.


And yes — it’s already live on the Mac App Store in its very first release. To be honest, I expected at least a few rejections from Apple since clipboard access is considered sensitive. But it got approved on the first submission itself. That felt really good.


Here’s how it happened — and how AI became my development partner in the process.


Why I Decided to Build It

I’ve always wanted a clean, lightweight clipboard manager for macOS. Something simple. Fast. Private.

But most tools I found were either:

  • Expensive one-time purchases

  • Subscription-based

  • Or overloaded with features I didn’t need

So I thought, why not build my own?

As someone with years of development experience, building a clipboard manager wasn’t impossible. But what surprised me was how much AI accelerated the entire journey.

AI Was My Assistant — Not My Replacement

I used Cursor AI and ChatGPT throughout the development process.

But I want to be very clear: AI didn’t build the app for me.

It worked with me.

I drove the architecture. I made the decisions. I verified everything. I tested everything. I rejected suggestions when needed.

AI reduced friction — but I steered the direction.

That collaboration dynamic made all the difference.

9 Hours to a Working Core

The first 9 hours were focused purely on building the core:

  • Clipboard monitoring

  • History storage

  • Local persistence

  • UI structure

  • Retrieval and filtering

Instead of spending hours debating architecture, I would ask:

  • What’s the cleanest way to structure this?

  • What are the best patterns for lightweight clipboard tracking?

  • How should I model this data?

Within seconds, I had structured suggestions.

Were they perfect? No.

But they were strong starting points.

That alone saved days of overthinking.

AI helped me:

  • Draft architectural approaches

  • Generate boilerplate code

  • Suggest efficient polling strategies

  • Identify potential memory risks

What normally might take research, StackOverflow digging, and trial-and-error got compressed into fast iteration cycles.

6 Hours of Refinement and Optimization

After the core was ready, I spent around 5 more hours polishing.

This is where AI felt like a senior engineer sitting next to me.

I would paste sections of code and ask:

  • Is this memory-safe?

  • Can this be optimized?

  • Is this over-engineered?

  • Where could this break under load?

Not every suggestion was correct — but almost every suggestion improved my thinking.

And that’s powerful.

AI accelerated decision-making. Instead of waiting days to discover structural weaknesses, I could analyze and refine instantly.


Speed of Prototyping Changed Everything

The biggest shift was momentum.

Normally development looks like this:

Think → Implement → Debug → Rethink → Refactor → Repeat.

With AI, it became:

Think → Discuss → Refine → Implement faster.

It reduced hesitation. If I had an architectural doubt, I resolved it in minutes instead of postponing it.

That speed creates flow.

And flow creates productivity.

Confidence — But With Responsibility

One thing I was careful about: never blindly trusting AI.

Every generated snippet was:

  • Reviewed

  • Adjusted

  • Tested

  • Sometimes rejected

I simulated edge cases.
Checked memory behavior.
Inspected performance with larger clipboard histories.

AI doesn’t understand your app. You do.

The balance between AI assistance and developer judgment is critical.

AI gave speed.
Experience gave direction.

The Apple Review Moment

Clipboard apps deal with sensitive data. I genuinely expected rejection or at least review friction.

But CopyCat was approved in the first release.

That wasn’t just a product milestone — it validated that:

  • Architecture was clean

  • Permissions were correct

  • Privacy boundaries were respected

That felt like silent confirmation that the decisions made during development were solid.

What I Learned

This experience changed how I view development.

AI is not replacing developers.

It is amplifying developers.

It:

  • Reduces friction

  • Speeds up iteration

  • Encourages experimentation

  • Supports architectural thinking

But it still needs:

  • Judgment

  • Verification

  • Responsibility

Building CopyCat in 15 hours wasn’t about shortcuts.

It was about focused collaboration.

It felt like building at the speed of thought.

And that has permanently shifted how I see the future of software development.

AI is not a magic solution.

It’s a development partner.

And when used correctly, it unlocks a new level of execution speed — without compromising quality.

సమస్తం ఉన్నవారు అసంతృప్తికి కారణాలు వెతుకుతారు. ఏమీ లేనివారు, ఒక్క పళ్ళెం ఆహారం కోసం నిశ్శబ్ద ఆశతో వస్తారు. ఈ వైరుధ్యం ఆత్మను కుదిపేస్తుంది.

  • పేదవారిని జాలితో కాదు, అవగాహనతో చూడు. వారికి బతుకు ఎంత సమీపంలో ఉందో గ్రహించు. ఒక్క భోజనం వారికి ఎంత ముఖ్యం. వారి చర్యలు అగౌరవం కాదు, నిస్సహాయత.
  • మనల్ని మనం ప్రతిబింబించు. మనకు తగినంత, కొన్నిసార్లు అవసరానికి మించి ఉంది. అయినా, మన ఆత్మను నింపని వాటి వెనుక పరుగెత్తుతాం. ఆ భోజనం నీకు చూపింది—నిజమైన ఆకలి, ఊహాజనిత శూన్యతల మధ్య తేడా.

ఏం నేర్చుకున్నాం?
  1. దయ అమూల్యం, కానీ సమతుల్యం కావాలి. మేము ప్రేమతో వడ్డించడానికి ప్రయత్నించాం, అయితే అవసరాలను నిర్వహించాం. అది తప్పు కాదు—అది బాధ్యతాయుతమైన కరుణ.
  2. మానవ గౌరవం గాజులాంటిది. ఎవరూ యాచించాలనుకోరు. కానీ ఆకలి సిగ్గును ఓడిస్తుంది.
  3. కృతజ్ఞత దృక్కోణాన్ని మారుస్తుంది. ఇలాంటి ఒక క్షణం సమృద్ధిని, బాధను చూసే విధానాన్ని మార్చగలదు.


ఈ భోజనం కేవలం ఆహారం గురించి కాదు. అది సమాజానికి అద్దం పట్టింది. మనకు ఎంత ఉందో, కొందరు ఎంత తక్కువతో బతుకుతున్నారో, శోకం యొక్క ఆచారాలలో కూడా జీవనం మనకు ఎక్కువ ఇవ్వమని, తక్కువ తీర్పు చెప్పమని నేర్పుతుందని చూపింది.

      Recently, I attended a post-funeral ritual in Vizag as per Hindu tradition. On the 11th day after a soul’s departure, it is customary to offer lunch to family and relatives, honoring the departed. But the day turned out to be more than just a ritual. It turned into a silent lesson in humanity.

As we began to serve lunch, I noticed something that quietly melted my heart. Many unknown people—people we hadn’t invited—began to arrive. Some acted like relatives and quietly joined the meal. Some were drunk, and others tried to come back in line again and again, even if it meant creating a scene. At first, we tried to manage everything peacefully. We didn’t want to say “no” to anyone. But deep inside, we were worried—what if the actual relatives don’t get food because of this?

At one point, we had to stop those coming in for second or third servings. It wasn’t out of anger—it was fear that the food might fall short for those it was meant for.

But what struck me hardest was this:


Some people were willing to face rejection, shame, and discomfort, just for a meal.

That’s when I realized: for many of us, a meal is routine. But for some, it’s a battle. It's not just food—it’s dignity, survival, and a chance to feel human for a moment.

And here’s the contrast that stings the soul:

  • Some people who have everything find reasons to feel unhappy.
  • Others, who have nothing, still show up with silent hope—for just one plate of food.


Which Side Should we Look At?

May be both sides!

  • Look at the poor not with pity, but with awareness. Understand how close survival is for them. A single meal matters. Their actions are not always out of disrespect, but desperation.
  • Look at ourselves with reflection. We have enough. Sometimes more than enough. Yet, we still chase things that don’t feed our soul. That meal showed you the contrast between real hunger and imagined emptiness.


What This Teaches Us

  1. Kindness is priceless—but it also needs balance. We tried to serve with love, yet manage the needs of others. That’s not wrong. That’s responsible compassion.

  2. Human dignity is fragile. No one wants to beg. But hunger can make a person lose the fear of shame.

  3. Gratitude changes perspective. One moment like this can shift the way we see abundance and suffering.



    This wasn’t just about a lunch. It was a mirror held up to society. It showed how much we have, how little some survive on, and how even in rituals of grief, life keeps teaching us to feel more, give more, and judge less.

    People often come and tell us that we've made a mistake. But my perspective is this: If what I did is genuinely a mistake, then their judgment is fair. However, many times, people claim I'm wrong simply because they don't like what I did. It’s important to distinguish between genuine mistakes and personal dislikes. If I'm wrong, I'll accept it. But if you just don't like what I do, that doesn’t make it wrong.

    It's a sad but bitter truth that many uneducated individuals are often more cultured and better human beings than some who are literate. Being educated doesn't automatically make someone a good person. True education lies in understanding and practicing kindness, respect, and humility, not just in acquiring knowledge.

Life has a funny way of teaching us lessons when we least expect it. Just the other day, I found myself in a situation that made me stop and reflect on the disparities that exist in our world. It all started with a simple trip, but it ended with a profound realization.

The Journey Begins:
Three days ago, I embarked on a journey, renting a car for a little adventure. To pick up the car, I rode my bike 40 kilometers from my home to the rental place, leaving my bike there to retrieve later. It seemed like a small inconvenience at the time, nothing out of the ordinary. Little did I know, this journey would lead me to a humbling moment of clarity.

A Moment of Forgetfulness(as usual):
After an enjoyable trip filled with new experiences and discoveries, I returned home, ready to settle back into my routine. However, as fate would have it, I realized I left my bike keys inside my luggage, which was back at home. Moreover, I had left to deliver the car, only to realize that I needed my bike key to bring my bike back home. My initial reaction was frustration and worry. How would I retrieve my keys without embarking on another 40-kilometer journey?

An Unexpected Helper:
Thankfully, in this age of convenience, there are services available to help in such predicaments. I arranged for someone to pick up the keys from my home and deliver them to my current location. What happened next is what truly touched my heart.

A Lesson in Compassion:
An elderly man, around 60 years old, arrived with my keys in hand. He had traveled the same 40 kilometers that I had, not for his own adventure, but to fulfill a task that I couldn’t manage myself. Despite the long journey and the apparent inconvenience, he wore a smile that spoke volumes.

Reflections on Inequality:
In that moment, as I thanked him and embraced him in gratitude, I couldn’t help but think about the stark differences in our lives. While I had the means to order a service to deliver my keys, this man was making ends meet by undertaking such tasks. His smile, amidst the struggles he faced, resonated deeply with me.

Conclusion:
It made me realize that life isn’t the same for everyone. While some of us enjoy comforts and conveniences, there are others who endure hardships and challenges just to get by. This realization humbled me and grounded me in a profound way.
